The Charlotte restaurant opened in May 2012, beginning the group that later expanded to Charleston and Nashville. Patrick Whalen, Alejandro Torio and chef partner Lynch formed 5th Street Group that year. The local dining room's entrance sits at the Fifth-and-Church corner, despite its mailing address on North Tryon Street.
Moroccan meatballs arrive with whipped feta, cucumber and a spiced barbecue glaze. The kitchen braids ravioli by hand and serves it with tomato sauce, capers and Parmesan; miso short rib comes with sweet potato puree and maitake mushrooms.
A three-course prix fixe offers a set-price alternative to choosing each course separately, with selected starters, entrees and desserts. Moderately priced burgers and meatloaf sit alongside more expensive steaks on the regular menu. Brunch runs Friday through Sunday, a useful option for an Uptown visit before the usual weekend rush.
