A beach in southern Thailand supplied Rai Lay’s name when the team behind Deejai Thai developed this South End restaurant. That connection gives the kitchen a broader local history than its South Boulevard address alone. The bar offers cocktails, wine, beer and sake, allowing dinner to extend beyond a quick noodle order.
Kao Soy layers soft and crispy egg noodles with curry, pickled mustard greens, red onion and fried shallots. Moo Ping pairs grilled marinated pork with sticky rice and chili-tamarind sauce. Shrimp Mango Curry adds mango to a rich Panang preparation, while the omelet-topped Omurice brings a different rice dish into the selection.
Most regular dishes are moderately priced, with lunch costing less than dinner for several shared menu items. Select the spice level when ordering, and note the automatic gratuity for groups of five or more. Monday is closed and weekday service pauses between lunch and dinner; Sunday begins in the evening, so check the South Boulevard schedule before traveling.
